About First National Bank in Ord

A History of Service. . .

In a small frame building, located across the street to the south of the Ord Post Office where Ord Cooperative Oil, Co. once stood, and Ord Fire Department resides, the Ord City Bank opened its doors on March 16, 1882.

H.C. Metcalf was president of the little bank when it opened and its staff of officers and directors included D.C. Bell, W.C. Wentz, George A. Percival and H.A. Babcock.

J.M. Alderman of Ord opened the first account in the Ord City Bank, a bank which has grown throughout the years until today it is the First National Bank in Ord which provides financial service for all of Valley County and adjacent counties.

The Ord City Bank received its national charter and changed its name to First National Bank on May 1, 1885.

From its initial location, in 1887 the bank moved its offices to the North West corner at 16th and M Streets (the old Attic Building or current Scratchtown location). In 1908 a new bank was constructed on the South East corner at 16th and M Streets (presently the law firm of Stowell & Geweke, P.C.). This location was considered to be one of the finer buildings in this area of Nebraska. The First National Bank in Ord made its home at that location for 65 years. In 1973, the bank moved to its present facility at 1411 M Street. A building was added to the South of this location housing our Drive Up Automated Teller Machine (ATM).

In 1985, at the height of the farm crisis, First National Bank in Ord acquired the Farmers State Bank of Sargent, Nebraska. This facility, located at 315 West Main Street, Sargent, Nebraska was remodeled in 1987 and a drive up lane added. In 1999, the Ord location expanded and added an elevator, one of the first in Valley County.

In 2012, First National Bank in Ord acquired CNB Community Bank in Greeley, Nebraska. This facility is located at 123 S. Galway, Greeley, NE 68842. The First National Bank in Ord sprang from humble beginning to become a diverse, full service bank today serving a large portion of central Nebraska.

It has remained locally owned and managed and has grown to over $100,000,000 in assets since 1882.
